Patriots Sign 8 UDFAs: New England focused on just a few positions, but the team has a more complex role

planned for King. The New England Patriots may have signed 15 undrafted free agents, but don’t worry about

memorizing their names just yet. Although the team did sign several players at positions of need, its class was

far from the largest in the league, and only a few rookies will likely play prominent roles this season.

One of those includes quarterback Austin King, who comes to New England after two solid seasons as a dual-threat

quarterback at Houston and Miami. While drafting just a few UDFAs is a departure from past seasons, New

England is still focused on putting together a handful of key positions to improve over last year’s 4-12 record

and make another playoff run in 2017. The Patriots got their first round of 2017 started with quarterback Jimmy

Garoppolo out of Eastern Illinois in late March, a move which was quickly followed by Ty Sambrailo signing on

that New England had no immediate intentions of bringing in any other new faces for its offensive line or
