Her mother, Vera Sahatçiu (née Dushi), is Albanian and her father, Besnik Sahatçiu, is a Kosovar refugee from Ferizaj. Rita grew up in West London where she attended St Cuthbert with St Matthias CE Primary School before moving on to Sylvia Young Theatre School and becoming well known.
Rita started singing at age 12 after watching American singer Christina Aguilera perform The Voice Within. Her mother encouraged her to sing by buying her singing lessons after seeing an advert on TV.
