Google Nest Wi-Fi has been on the market since 2011, with an updated model coming out in 2013 and again in 2015. Now, it seems the company is ready to put its best foot forward with some truly impressive updates to the Nest experience. According to a report by Android Police, Google used one of its dogfood sessions to show off how it plans to overhaul the app experience on its smart home device line in the near future.

Google is asking for help from its users to redesign the Home app experience. In a recent blog post, the company teased next generation design for the smart home app, giving us a glimpse of what could be in store. The current Google Nest Wi-Fi app has a dated look and feel, so an update would be very welcome. And based on the teaser image, it looks like Google is planning something major.
The new design appears to be much sleeker and more modern, with easier-to-read text and icons. Google wants to make it easier for users to control their devices and manage their settings. The redesign will also include new features and improvements. If you’re interested in helping out, you can sign up for the Google Home Beta Program. The beta program is open to residents of United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. In order to be eligible for the beta program, you must meet these requirements:
• Be at least 18 years old or have parental permission;
• Have access to WiFi internet connection;
• Live in one of the countries listed above;
• Have an Android phone or iPhone (running iOS 11) with the following requirements: iOS 11 on iPhone 6S or newer running 64-bit processor; Android 5+ on Lollipop (2) or newer running ARMv8A CPU with NEON and WOFF support; Build number 16288+ (Windows 10) Build number 14393+ (Windows Phone 10);
Android 4.4+, if updating from previous version, device needs to be restarted twice after update has been installed before being able to register on the beta site. If you qualify, head over to this link to sign up. Once signed up, you’ll receive email instructions on how to download the app.
Once downloaded, the first thing you’ll notice is that there are more options and clearer labels for voice commands. You’ll also notice that commands are more streamlined than they were before and have less steps needed when performing tasks like turning off lights or adjusting heating. Users will see two tabs:
Home and Explore. Under Home, users will find all their favorite devices as well as customized settings such as lighting preferences and noise levels. Each device has a specific location so it’s easy to find what you need quickly and then perform whatever action is needed by simply tapping once instead of scrolling through pages looking for a specific button.
