سَبَّحَ لِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ الحشر [1]
Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [1]
هُوَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ مِن دِيَارِهِمْ لِأَوَّلِ الْحَشْرِ ۚ مَا ظَنَنتُمْ أَن يَخْرُجُوا ۖ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُم مَّانِعَتُهُمْ حُصُونُهُم مِّنَ اللَّهِ فَأَتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ حَيْثُ لَمْ يَحْتَسِبُوا ۖ وَقَذَفَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمُ الرُّعْبَ ۚ يُخْرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُم بِأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَيْدِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَاعْتَبِرُوا يَا أُولِي الْأَبْصَارِ الحشر [2]
It is He who expelled the ones who disbelieved among the People of the Scripture from their homes at the first gathering. You did not think they would leave, and they thought that their fortresses would protect them from Allah; but [the decree of] Allah came upon them from where they had not expected, and He cast terror into their hearts [so] they destroyed their houses by their [own] hands and the hands of the believers. So take warning, O people of vision. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [2]
وَلَوْلَا أَن كَتَبَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْجَلَاءَ لَعَذَّبَهُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا ۖ وَلَهُمْ فِي الْآخِرَةِ عَذَابُ النَّارِ الحشر [3]
And if not that Allah had decreed for them evacuation, He would have punished them in [this] world, and for them in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [3]
ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ شَاقُّوا اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۖ وَمَن يُشَاقِّ اللَّهَ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ الحشر [4]
That is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. And whoever opposes Allah - then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [4]
مَا قَطَعْتُم مِّن لِّينَةٍ أَوْ تَرَكْتُمُوهَا قَائِمَةً عَلَىٰ أُصُولِهَا فَبِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ وَلِيُخْزِيَ الْفَاسِقِينَ الحشر [5]
Whatever you have cut down of [their] palm trees or left standing on their trunks - it was by permission of Allah and so He would disgrace the defiantly disobedient. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [5]
وَمَا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْهُمْ فَمَا أَوْجَفْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ خَيْلٍ وَلَا رِكَابٍ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يُسَلِّطُ رُسُلَهُ عَلَىٰ مَن يَشَاءُ ۚ وَاللَّهُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ الحشر [6]
And what Allah restored [of property] to His Messenger from them - you did not spur for it [in an expedition] any horses or camels, but Allah gives His messengers power over whom He wills, and Allah is over all things competent. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [6]
مَّا أَفَاءَ اللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْقُرَىٰ فَلِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ وَلِذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَالْيَتَامَىٰ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيلِ كَيْ لَا يَكُونَ دُولَةً بَيْنَ الْأَغْنِيَاءِ مِنكُمْ ۚ وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا ۚ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ الحشر [7]
And what Allah restored to His Messenger from the people of the towns - it is for Allah and for the Messenger and for [his] near relatives and orphans and the [stranded] traveler - so that it will not be a perpetual distribution among the rich from among you. And whatever the Messenger has given you - take; and what he has forbidden you - refrain from. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [7]
لِلْفُقَرَاءِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الَّذِينَ أُخْرِجُوا مِن دِيَارِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ يَبْتَغُونَ فَضْلًا مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَرِضْوَانًا وَيَنصُرُونَ اللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الصَّادِقُونَ الحشر [8]
For the poor emigrants who were expelled from their homes and their properties, seeking bounty from Allah and [His] approval and supporting Allah and His Messenger, [there is also a share]. Those are the truthful. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [8]
وَالَّذِينَ تَبَوَّءُوا الدَّارَ وَالْإِيمَانَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ يُحِبُّونَ مَنْ هَاجَرَ إِلَيْهِمْ وَلَا يَجِدُونَ فِي صُدُورِهِمْ حَاجَةً مِّمَّا أُوتُوا وَيُؤْثِرُونَ عَلَىٰ أَنفُسِهِمْ وَلَوْ كَانَ بِهِمْ خَصَاصَةٌ ۚ وَمَن يُوقَ شُحَّ نَفْسِهِ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ الحشر [9]
And [also for] those who were settled in al-Madinah and [adopted] the faith before them. They love those who emigrated to them and find not any want in their breasts of what the emigrants were given but give [them] preference over themselves, even though they are in privation. And whoever is protected from the stinginess of his soul - it is those who will be the successful. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [9]
وَالَّذِينَ جَاءُوا مِن بَعْدِهِمْ يَقُولُونَ رَبَّنَا اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِإِخْوَانِنَا الَّذِينَ سَبَقُونَا بِالْإِيمَانِ وَلَا تَجْعَلْ فِي قُلُوبِنَا غِلًّا لِّلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ رَءُوفٌ رَّحِيمٌ الحشر [10]
And [there is a share for] those who came after them, saying, "Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful." Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [10]
أَلَمْ تَرَ إِلَى الَّذِينَ نَافَقُوا يَقُولُونَ لِإِخْوَانِهِمُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ لَئِنْ أُخْرِجْتُمْ لَنَخْرُجَنَّ مَعَكُمْ وَلَا نُطِيعُ فِيكُمْ أَحَدًا أَبَدًا وَإِن قُوتِلْتُمْ لَنَنصُرَنَّكُمْ وَاللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ إِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ الحشر [11]
Have you not considered those who practice hypocrisy, saying to their brothers who have disbelieved among the People of the Scripture, "If you are expelled, we will surely leave with you, and we will not obey, in regard to you, anyone - ever; and if you are fought, we will surely aid you." But Allah testifies that they are liars. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [11]
لَئِنْ أُخْرِجُوا لَا يَخْرُجُونَ مَعَهُمْ وَلَئِن قُوتِلُوا لَا يَنصُرُونَهُمْ وَلَئِن نَّصَرُوهُمْ لَيُوَلُّنَّ الْأَدْبَارَ ثُمَّ لَا يُنصَرُونَ الحشر [12]
If they are expelled, they will not leave with them, and if they are fought, they will not aid them. And [even] if they should aid them, they will surely turn their backs; then [thereafter] they will not be aided. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [12]
لَأَنتُمْ أَشَدُّ رَهْبَةً فِي صُدُورِهِم مِّنَ اللَّهِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَفْقَهُونَ الحشر [13]
You [believers] are more fearful within their breasts than Allah. That is because they are a people who do not understand. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [13]
لَا يُقَاتِلُونَكُمْ جَمِيعًا إِلَّا فِي قُرًى مُّحَصَّنَةٍ أَوْ مِن وَرَاءِ جُدُرٍ ۚ بَأْسُهُم بَيْنَهُمْ شَدِيدٌ ۚ تَحْسَبُهُمْ جَمِيعًا وَقُلُوبُهُمْ شَتَّىٰ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمْ قَوْمٌ لَّا يَعْقِلُونَ الحشر [14]
They will not fight you all except within fortified cities or from behind walls. Their violence among themselves is severe. You think they are together, but their hearts are diverse. That is because they are a people who do not reason. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [14]
كَمَثَلِ الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ قَرِيبًا ۖ ذَاقُوا وَبَالَ أَمْرِهِمْ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ الحشر [15]
[Theirs is] like the example of those shortly before them: they tasted the bad consequence of their affair, and they will have a painful punishment. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [15]
كَمَثَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ إِذْ قَالَ لِلْإِنسَانِ اكْفُرْ فَلَمَّا كَفَرَ قَالَ إِنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِّنكَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ اللَّهَ رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ الحشر [16]
[The hypocrites are] like the example of Satan when he says to man, "Disbelieve." But when he disbelieves, he says, "Indeed, I am disassociated from you. Indeed, I fear Allah, Lord of the worlds." Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [16]
فَكَانَ عَاقِبَتَهُمَا أَنَّهُمَا فِي النَّارِ خَالِدَيْنِ فِيهَا ۚ وَذَٰلِكَ جَزَاءُ الظَّالِمِينَ الحشر [17]
So the outcome for both of them is that they will be in the Fire, abiding eternally therein. And that is the recompense of the wrong-doers. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [17]
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَلْتَنظُرْ نَفْسٌ مَّا قَدَّمَتْ لِغَدٍ ۖ وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ الحشر [18]
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow - and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [18]
وَلَا تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ نَسُوا اللَّهَ فَأَنسَاهُمْ أَنفُسَهُمْ ۚ أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْفَاسِقُونَ الحشر [19]
And be not like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. Those are the defiantly disobedient. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [19]
لَا يَسْتَوِي أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ وَأَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۚ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ هُمُ الْفَائِزُونَ الحشر [20]
Not equal are the companions of the Fire and the companions of Paradise. The companions of Paradise - they are the attainers [of success]. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [20]
لَوْ أَنزَلْنَا هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ عَلَىٰ جَبَلٍ لَّرَأَيْتَهُ خَاشِعًا مُّتَصَدِّعًا مِّنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَتِلْكَ الْأَمْثَالُ نَضْرِبُهَا لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ الحشر [21]
If We had sent down this Qur'an upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and coming apart from fear of Allah. And these examples We present to the people that perhaps they will give thought. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [21]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۖ عَالِمُ الْغَيْبِ وَالشَّهَادَةِ ۖ هُوَ الرَّحْمَٰنُ الرَّحِيمُ الحشر [22]
He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [22]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الَّذِي لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْمَلِكُ الْقُدُّوسُ السَّلَامُ الْمُؤْمِنُ الْمُهَيْمِنُ الْعَزِيزُ الْجَبَّارُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُ ۚ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ الحشر [23]
He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [23]
هُوَ اللَّهُ الْخَالِقُ الْبَارِئُ الْمُصَوِّرُ ۖ لَهُ الْأَسْمَاءُ الْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ يُسَبِّحُ لَهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ ۖ وَهُوَ الْعَزِيزُ الْحَكِيمُ الحشر [24]
He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. Al-Hashr ( The Gathering ) [24]

What is Holy Quran?

This week, for the first time, Holy Quran Reading. Christians and Muslims on two continents have gathered under one roof to celebrate what they believe to be one of the world’s most important books. So how did this fundamental set of beliefs come about? They are said to have come about by the Prophet Muhammad himself.

The Islamic prophet went up to the summit of Mount Arafat in Mecca and recited a couplet to the heavens: “My Lord and my God, Who will guide me to the Straight Way? And Who will lead me to the Presence of the Throne of Justice? Who will guide me to the Straight Way?”

Muslims believe that this was the prophet’s revelation to his Lord.

At that moment, Muslims say, Holy Quran Reading. God agreed that there would never be any conflict between man and his deity.

“The Quran explains that we should consider God’s attributes as pure and absolute. If we use human logic, we find that they are. Holy Quran Reading. God is beyond human laws and, so, is everything else,” said Suhaib Saleem, an Islamic scholar.

One of the most significant areas where Muslims differ about God is his creation of the world and humankind. Holy Quran Reading. Muslims believe that God created humans from clay. On the other hand, Christians believe that God created Adam from the dust of the earth.

What is the creator of the heavens and earth like?

“God is not like other humans,” Saleem said. “He’s infinite, indescribable, and omnipresent, so his attributes cannot be defined. So he cannot be called masculine or feminine. God cannot be analyzed by human intellect, but instead is explained only by revelation.”

How many days is he with his creation?

“God created the heavens and the earth in six 24-hour days. But since the day we are celebrating today is the Eid al-Fitr, the holiday commemorating the end of Ramadan, we are going by the Islamic lunar calendar, which calculates the length of days differently than the lunar calendar,” said Saleem. “In Islam, the Muslim calendar is used to mark the Islamic years.”

As for the state of nature, Muslims believe that all-powerful God created mankind in the Garden of Eden as “shareholders” in the earth. Holy Quran ReadingAccording to Islam, Adam and Eve disobeyed God and broke his commandment to not eat from the tree of knowledge.

For that transgression, God sent down a plague of locusts who stole man’s food and exposed him to temptation. In response, Adam and Eve were cast out of the garden. In the seventh century, Muslims believe that God sent a messenger named Ishmael to tell them that they must return to the land of the living if they wanted to be saved.

So God is cold-hearted?

“All right, but God also commands us to love each other,” Saleem said. “Even when a Muslim is killing another Muslim, he says he’s doing it to save him. If he truly believed that he should be killed, he wouldn’t obey the commands of God. So, no, I don’t think God is coldhearted.”

How can a dead person communicate with God?

“What is really unusual about God is that he is, in fact, present in everyone and in everyone, he is everywhere,” Saleem said. “If a person dies and is buried, and he believes that he will be resurrected, he will be reborn, like we are reborn from one birth to another.

God can be anywhere at any time. He doesn’t have a permanent home. He’s everywhere, and when you think of God, think of God not as a faraway God, but think of him as present with you all the time.”

To Muslims, he is also omnipresent. In their words, the prophet Muhammad said, “If God is sitting in a corner of a room and you sit at the other end of the room, you can hear his voice in a distance.”

All of this makes many Christians and Jews a little uncomfortable.

“I have never met a Muslim who actually says that Islam is a fair and just religion, because of the problems that are present with Muslims and their treatment of people of other faiths,” said Brian Daniels, a psychologist and a member of the State University of New York at New Paltz faculty of philosophy and religion.

“The fact that God can do anything and can do everything, and if we can’t understand his ways and the nature of his will, we are to be shunned and considered as unfaithful, is so far from the Christian and Jewish belief that anyone who tries to apply that to their own religions is missing the point and gets in their own way.”

What is the basic rule of prayer in Islam?

“In the holy Quran, the first thing that Allah tells us to do when we pray is to bow down before him, to call him by his name, ‘O Lord.’ And we don’t pray with any form of affirmation or negation, or telling him what we want,” Saleem said.

“It’s very much about thankfulness and supplication. After that, he gives us guidance on how to pray, what to do, and how to bow. After that, the rest is up to us. If we get stuck somewhere, we can always go back to his word and keep on praying until we come to a place of clarity.”

What are some of the world’s great mosques?

“I personally visited the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and the Al-Hussaini Mosque in Najaf, Iraq,” Saleem said. “I was deeply moved by both places, as well as the Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem. Also, I had the honor to meet some Muslims during my mission to Mecca.

Some of them are experts on Islamic architecture, such as Yusuf Altu’ai, who designed the first mosque in Malaysia, and who is famous for his expertise on Islamic architecture, and Dr. Raeesi Badeen, who designed a mosque in Bangladesh that took eight years to complete.”
