1) Processed meats
Processed meats are an easy way to get the protein you need without having to cook it yourself. Plus, they’re cheap and convenient. But did you know that processed meats have been linked to increased risks of certain cancers? One study found that people who ate bacon five or more times a week had an 18% higher chance of developing colorectal cancer than those who reported not eating bacon at all.
Processed meats also contain nitrates, which have been linked to an increased risk of leukemia and brain tumors in children exposed before birth, as well as an increased risk of prostate cancer in men. So if these foods sound tempting to you, maybe it’s time to rethink the convenience and take your health into consideration instead. It may be hard at first but giving up fast food is one small step toward living a healthier lifestyle.
